The “Wild West” days of medical marijuana dispensaries are now over, courtesy of a new law signed by Governor Jerry Brown.

Bill AB 1300 (PDF), proposed by Assemblyman Bob Blumenfield of Woodland Hills, allows cities to regulate the medical marijuana dispensaries in their area. It also allows cities to file civil or criminal claims against them for violations.

Blumenfield told the Los Angeles Times, “the new law will provide a framework for stability after years of struggling with a Wild West, lawless proliferation of dispensaries across California that sometimes constitute a public nuisance or worse.”

The law bridges that nebulous gap between the security needs of local jurisdictions and the state’s authorization of marijuana dispensaries for medical purposes. A statement released by Assemblyman Blumenfield’s office explains that before this law, local efforts to enforce zoning, permit, and other business regulations have been stymied by lawsuits from medical marijuana advocacy groups that claim state law preempts cities from monitoring and enforcing pot shops. Blumenfield states:

“Since there are virtually no legally binding state requirements on ‘pot shops,’ this new law is a first step towards much needed reform… It will help prevent medical marijuana abuses, preserve local control, and elevate our debate about medical marijuana.”

Opponents of the law fear that AB 1300 is just one more step toward less rights for medical marijuana users. Advocacy group California NORML asserts that the bill “does nothing to assure that patients who can’t grow their own [marijuana] will have safe or convenient access to medicine in their community.” A commenter on The Grow Report forum notes that there is nothing in the law that prevents cities from banning dispensaries outright, as Anaheim, California has done.

Only one lawmaker voted against the bill in the California Assembly (Tom Ammiano of San Francisco, reports the LA Weekly) and it had no opposition in the Senate.

Hello Lovelys , Here is my Review on Purple Kush (1), I got this medical marijuana at Desert Organic Solutions in Palms Springs one of the few Licenced dispensarys in the desert.
I use cannabis for medical reasons. i use it for my kidnys because i have an abnormal shape to them and i cant take any other types of medicine , i dont even drink alcohol anymore cuz it hurts my kidnys. . and about a month ago i got in a car accident, i fliped over 2 times, and it messed up my back quite a bit so i have this chronic pain in my back. and only medical marijuana releaves my pain, not even morphine or vicodine do the trick. . and i hate contaminating my body with poison.

sorry for the poor quality fotos but i only had my webcam . the buds are really dense & hard, a dark green with lil spots of dark purple.. it could of been manicured better who ever did it cut off to much from the bud and it didnt have many trichomes but they where a tanish orangy color. Personaly i love purple buds and for this bud to be “purple kush” it isnt purple enof for my visual taste. its kinda disapointing . i like how it smells, its a verry piney smell, its a verry fresh smell. with a tiny sort of sweet Floral undertone.

I love rolling joints, its my fav. way to smoke!. I like useing Elements ~ultra thin rice papers ~ . or Zig Zags when i have them. i like to put filters in my joints.

Heres my Lovely Joint.

Tasting the buque… its so sweet.

i love this !. its not to harsh , the 1st toke made me cough, an I hardly cough . the high hit me instantly, its a verry nice indica all over body high , its strong and an cant feel my back pain. i’m verry relaxed.

at 1st i was really stoned , i loved it i couldnt feel my back pain and i felt the high all over my body for a long time, like 4 hr.s it was a verry nice constant high, it definatly gaved me the munchies. and at the end of the high i was really sleepy , and got knoked out for HR.s so i recomend this for any one with any type of chronic pain, insomnia, loss of apitie and anyone who just loves kushes, its a good kush strain. !

Desert Organic solutions is viewed by many as one of the most compassionate Medical Marijuana Collective’s in the Inland Empire. After talking with the President and CEO of Desert Organic Solutions, it’s clear to see why. Desert Organic is one of only 3 Licensed Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in the Inland Empire. Although there are many unlicensed dispensaries in Riverside County, Desert Organics member base has expanded since opening with only 8 members in June of 2010. The collective has over 5000 patients and signs up anywhere from 15-25 new patients daily. Gary Cherlin says “it’s all about Compassion and giving back to the community”. Desert Organic currently has many Compassionate programs in place such as free medicine for the indigent. Discounts to Senior Citizens, Military personal, Delivery services to home bound patients and a host of others. Desert Organic recently started a Support group for AIDS patients, the groups meet biweekly and all patients that attend get free medication. They recently set up a program for the Homeless and donate clothing and other supplies to Homeless shelters in and around the Desert. Mr. Cherlin is always looking for new and innovative ways to give back. “Recently we noticed that the patients from The Desert Aids Project had problems getting verified at all the collectives because the DAP is not open on the weekends and they are busy, and do not always have the opportunity to answer the phone and verify patients. “When I realized this was a problem I went to the DAP and donated a Web-Site with 24 hour verification services so that AIDS patients can get their medication without waiting” said Mr. Cherlin. This is a free Web-site that any Dispensary can use. Desert Organic is currently setting up a social services division for their clients, with a registered Social Worker on site 5 days a week by appointment. Desert Organic’s Social work division will provide concrete services such as help in applying for or re-certifying for Food Stamps, Medicaid and other services. They will also help arrange transportation to and from medical appointments and help clients apply for and obtain meals on wheels as well as other services.

In terms of Medical Marijuana, Desert Organic has a wide range of Medical Marijuana to choose from. They set the standard of lowering prices in the Valley. Before Desert Organic Solutions opened you could not find a Donation as low as $30 for an 1/8 of high grade Medicinal Marijuana. Desert Organic is well known for the Quality of medication they provide and they are also very well known for their edibles. From their hash Oil infused Lollipops to Chocolate Truffles “Most patients call us an adult Candy Store” Mr. Cherlin says. Desert Organic has one of the most extensive edibles menu you can find. ”All of our edibles are made in professional kitchens by real Chiefs with Food Handlers Permits” There has been some controversy as to the safety of edibles found at Dispensaries all over the country. “our answer to that has been to make sure all edibles we carry are tested and are made professionally”

The facility’s patient demographic runs the gamut. On an average day, Cherlin says the dispensary could see anyone from a 90-year-old glaucoma patient to a 23-year-old suffering from breast cancer.

The collective’s website includes testimonials from patients like Tom M. of Palm Springs: “You truly are one of the few good guys. May you continue the excellent services you provide and I am most honored to call you my dispensary of record.”

Desert Organic was recently chosen as ” The Best Collective in the Inland Empire” Gary Cherlin is well known in the Medical Marijuana Community and is seen as an expert in the field. Mr Cherlin was chosen to be a Judge in this year’s Cannabis Bowl held at Oaksertdam University on 4/20/11 in Oakland Ca. Mr. Cherlin was recently interviewed by High Times Magazine and appears on several Radio and Television Talk Shows in the Inland Empire.

One of only three legal facilities approved for operation in the Inland Empire, the Desert Organic Solutions (DOS) dispensary serves upwards of 100 patients per day, employs a staff of seven, and is seen by many as an asset to the community.

“We started out with only six members, and I never could have imagined we would grow so quickly,” says President Gary Cherlin. “We have 2,820 members now, and a large percentage of them have cancer, HIV, or multiple sclerosis. I’ve been getting tremendous feedback from them in terms of just how necessary this facility is to their overall well-being.”

Located at 19-486 Newhall Street near Interstate-10 at Indian Canyon Drive, the facility opened June 5, 2010 to provide patients with safe, reliable access to affordable, high-quality cannabis. The membership collective is open to all qualified patients with a physician’s verified recommendation and primary caregivers.

“The City of Palm Springs was wonderful in terms of helping to fast-track the approval for our zoning license prior to opening,” Cherlin said. “They see we are a legitimate, licensed facility that helps people who are suffering.

“For me, it’s all about giving back to the community,” he added. “I wanted to help and asked myself ‘what is the best way to give back?’” So, DOS has been expanding its patient programs, offering a free package of medicine once a month to indigent patients. It also runs a program for the disabled and one for military veterans, and recently started collecting clothing for an area homeless shelter.

In terms of future trends, Cherlin anticipates tremendous growth in the area of edible products. His facility offers a large assortment of such items, which include everything from ice cream to gluten-free bread pudding.

“These products really appeal to our older patients who are seeking alternative ways of ingesting the medicine,” he said. “In this day and age, there are so many options for people. Medicinal marijuana isn’t just about smoking anymore.”

Marijuana ice cream has finally hit the shelves

Like ice cream? Ever wanted to try ice cream flavors like Banannabis Foster, Straw-Mari Cheesecake and TRIPle Chocolate Brownie? Are you a stoner that always dreamed that one day eating ice cream would get you high? Today is your lucky day…

Pot ice cream has finally made it to shelves in Santa Cruz, California. That’s right, a marijuana dispensary there has developed half-pints of weed infused ice cream that will get you baked without all the bongs and whistles. Take that Ben and Jerry!

The current flavors owner Jonathan Kolodinski offers at Creme De Canna, which opened last week, are Banannabis Foster, Straw-Mari Cheesecake and TRIPle Chocolate Brownie. Kolodinski said more flavors are in the works.

OK, those flavors sound pretty good, but honestly, will people really want pot in their ice cream?

“Everybody who’s tried it has said they absolutely love it. A lot of people come back for seconds, thirds and fourths,” Kolodinksi said.

That’s a dangerous precedent you’re setting for people. It’s like the best of both worlds for hungry stoners. They’ve been trying hard for years to come up with adequate sustenance that would let them get rid of the munchies while also getting them even more high. Could this be the start of a vicious cycle? Weed smokers that eat ice cream, then when they are hungry they eat ice cream and then they get even higher, meaning that they’ll need to eat even more ice cream when those munchies kick in, until… well, until they come back for thirds and fourths.

Klodinski said there are about two to four doses of cannabis for each half-pint, which means finishing one would be similar to smoking an eighth of high-grade marijuana, the equivalent of eight joints.

Yikes. So gaining a few while eating a half a pint now isn’t your biggest concern when eating ice cream. Now you have to worry that you’ll be higher than you ever have been in your life. Things like taking your pants off and going for a walk or watching a marathon of Designing Women at 5am seem like moderately good ideas after downing a pint.

At $15 a piece, the half-pints of ice cream are potent.
